Defending Champs Down Inferno

More news about: Alverno

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College dropped a home contest Saturday night to the defending Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference champion, Concordia University Wisconsin, 72-43, inside Reiman Gymnasium.

The visiting Falcons (17-4, 14-2 NACC) led the entire game and scored at least 17 points in each quarter including 20 in the third.

The Inferno (9-12, 9-7) struggled shooting, as the team shot just 23 percent from the field and was 1-of-12 from beyond the arc. The hosts did make 75 percent of their free throws (18-of-24), the fourth-best performance from the line this season.

Gabby Hood led the way for Alverno with 14 points, as she sunk 8-of-9 free throws.

Mollie Mikyska chipped in seven points, and the Inferno's all-time leading rebounder added to her career total with a game-high 10 rebounds.

Taylor DeLong led CUW with a game-best 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting and tallied a team-high seven rebounds.

The Inferno, still in the lead for the sixth and final spot in the NACC Women's Basketball Tournament, travels to Rockford University Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. contest. Alverno's magic number to make the conference playoffs is three with four games to play.
