WORCESTER – Senior Priscilla Dunphy (Barrington, RI) and junior Stasha Greenalch (Newington, CT) each scored seven points in the decisive fourth quarter to help WPI run away with a 71-45 NEWMAC women's basketball victory over visiting Emerson Tuesday night in Harrington Auditorium.

The Engineers up their record to 13-2 on the season and 5-1 in league play as the Lions dip to 8-5 and 2-3.

Trailing 4-2 with 2:53 expired, senior Sarah Rogers (Colchester, CT) drained a three to give the Engineers the 5-4 advantage. The hosts built a 10-point lead before sophomore Charlie Boyle (Scotts Valley, CA) sank a jumper with 43 seconds to play.

Junior Brittney Lambert (Hudson, NH) increased the Crimson and Gray lead to 13 with a triple at 5:17 in the second. The bucket also ignited a 9-2 run for the hosts. Emerson then went on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a traditional three-point play by junior Maya Savino (Killingworth, CT), to make it a nine-point game at the break.

The Lions began to mount a comeback by winning the third 18-13. Emerson was down by a pair with 30 seconds left in the frame following a three from freshman Natalie Clydesdale (Pittsburgh, PA). With the clock winding down, junior Madison Beck (Syracuse, NY) beat the buzzer for the four-point edge.

Including the previous basket, WPI surged ahead to open a 54-39 margin with 6:17 to play. The Boynton Hillers closed out the contest by scoring 15 of the last 17 points. The Engineers were clicking at 60 percent from the field compared to 15.4 percent om the final 10 minutes.

Dunphy led WPI with 16 points as junior Ama Biney (Worcester, MA) totaled a dozen and Beck came off the bench to deliver a career-high 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting from inside the arc and a 5 for 6 performance at the free throw line. Biney, Rogers and junior Maura Buckley (Melrose, MA) all shared game-high honors with seven rebounds each. Greenalch contributed nine points to go with four rebounds and three assists.

Boyle concluded with team-bests of 11 points and six defensive rebounds as junior Sierra Ducey (Poway, CA) recorded nine points, four defensive rebounds and a game-best five assists.

WPI nearly doubled up its guest in free throw attempts (19-10) to go along with differentials of 32-16 in the paint, 19-11 off turnovers and 26-10 from the bench. The Crimson and Gray also scored all 10 second chance points and all eight on the fast break.

On Thursday, the Engineers travel to Mount Holyoke for a 7pm matchup while the Lions continue their three-game road swing with a 4pm start at Babson.
