PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team picked up their second straight win, downing State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foes Plattsburgh St. on Saturday, 80-78.

The Golden Eagles improve to 2-7 on the season and 2-2 in league play while the Cardinals fall to 4-3 overall, and 1-3 in the SUNYAC.

Lindsay Johnson led the Golden Eagles with her second double-double of the season, posting 23 points and 12 boards. Faith Welch added 19 points to go with five assists while Bailey Pratt chipped in nine points, and Emily Nestler and Schyler Laux each netted eight.

Brockport fell behind 22-13 in the first quarter, but it was a big second that gave the Green and Gold a lift. Nestler got things started at the 6:45 mark, working in the lane for a bucket that cut the Green and Gold deficit to 28-21. From there, Brockport rode a 20-3 run, featuring three triples, from Laux, Pratt and Johnson, and three scores from Welch to take a 39-33 lead into the half.

In the third quarter, the Golden Eagles continued to work to distance themselves from the Cardinals, and saw their lead swell to double-digits following an 8-0 spurt, with buckets from Welch and Johnson, to lift Brockport 54-44 with 3:22 to play.

Brockport saw Plattsburgh close the quarter with a six-point run of their own, as the Green and Gold held to a 56-52 lead heading into the final frame.

A determined Plattsburgh regained the lead in the fourth quarter, but Brockport was equally determined to not throw in the towel. After six lead changes, Welch connected in the paint to give Brockport a lead they would not relinquish at the 4:20 mark.

A Laux trey, followed by a pair of free throws from Olivia LeBaron pushed the Golden Eagles out to a 75-68 lead with just over a minute remaining. Brockport outlasted the Cardinals, and connected at the line to secure the 80-78 win.

On the day, the Golden Eagles shot a hot 51.7 percent (31-60) from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range. Brockport edged Plattsburgh in the paint, 36-30 and used 20 points off 16 Cardinal turnovers.

The Golden Eagles will enjoy a break from play, returning after the holiday when they head to Salem, Va. to play in the Holiday Classic at Roanoke College, facing off against Bridgewater College on Dec. 29 and hosts Roanoke on Dec. 30.
