ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick slipped to 2-2 on the season following a 76-66 loss to Clarkson on Sunday in the Holiday Inn Classic at Lambros Arena. The Hawks trailed by 15 points at halftime but battled back to trim the gap to four points in the final quarter before coming up short in the end.
The Hawks shot only 32.1% (18-for-56) in the contest. The Golden Knights shot the ball well making 49% (25-for-51) of their attempts.
Senior Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland) led all scorers with 18 points on 5-of-6 shooting. She completed a double-double with 10 rebounds. Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) was the only other Hawk in double figures with 15 points. She had a game-high three treys and grabbed five rebounds.
Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists. Emily Stone (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) contributed nine points and a team-high five assists and LeeAnne Green (Windsor, CT/Watkinson School) had eight points and a game-high 11 boards.
The Hawks broke the ice with a Foreman layup less than a minute into the game. It would mark the team's only lead however as Clarkson hit a three at the other end and led for the rest of the game.
The Golden Knights would grab a 24-14 advantage after the first period and the lead grew to largest of the contest at the half, 40-25.
Trailing 52-38 with three minutes to go in the third quarter, the Hawks closed the quarter on a 10-3 run to cut the deficit to seven. Johnson (5) and Corbett (4) combined for nine points in the run.
Hartwick cut it to four three times in the first 3:19 of the fourth quarter. The Golden Knights would then register the next eight points to take a 67-55 lead with under four minutes left. The Hawk answered again, closing within five twice in the final two minutes but they got no closer.
Madison Shea and Stephanie Grobe led the way for Clarkson with 15 points apiece. Devin Sorell added 13 points.
In the final game of the day, SUNY Oneonta (3-0) captured the Holiday Inn Classic title with a 52-42 win over Rutgers-Newark (1-2). Cara Adams was the only player in double figures for the Red Dragons with 17 points. She was 5-of-8 from three-point range in the contest.
Hartwick travels to SUNY New Paltz on Tuesday, November 22. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
