Lighting Fall in Kean Classic Finals to Kean, 92-79; Del Rosario Named to All-Tourney Team

Union, N.J. – The Lehman College women's basketball dropped their first game of the 2016-17 season, as they were defeated by Kean University in the Kean Classic tournament finals, 92-79, Saturday afternoon at the Harwood Arena.

Leading the way in defeat for the Lightning (1-1) was Amely Del Rosario, who led the team with 27 points along with seven rebounds. For her efforts, she was named to the Kean Classic All-Tournament Team. Krystal Pearson added 20 points of her own with three assists and seven rebounds. Lynda Fields corralled a team-best nine boards to go with five assists and five steals in a losing effort.

The Cougars (2-1) got a game-high 39 points from Marajiah Bacon, while De'Mean Bond added a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds in the victory.

Lehman was outrebounded by Kean 64-45 on the game, including 24 offensive boards. The Cougars converted on 22 second chance points, and held the Lady Lightning to just 35.5% from the field (27 for 76).

In the first half, the Lightning led by as much as ten in the first quarter but Kean would go on a 14-0 run within a span of two quarters to regain the lead and go into the break up 45-35. Lehman would dominate the early parts of the third quarter as Del Rosario and Pearson poured in 12 consecutive points to recapture a 47-45 advantage.

The teams would trade the lead a few more times in the third, but the Cougars would build a lead and would take a 65-58 lead into the fourth. Kean would hold the Lightning to just two points in the first three and a half minutes as they moved ahead by double figures as they sealed the win.

Lehman will seek to avoid back-to-back losses when they face off with Rowan University next Saturday on the road in Glassboro. Tip time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
