@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball maintains perfect conference mark with Tuesday’s road win

NEWBURGH, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball captured a 71-66 Skyline Conference road win Tuesday evening over the Mount Saint Mary Knights from Kaplan Center in Newburgh, New York.  With the win, Old Westbury (4-2) improves to 2-0 in conference play while sending the Knights (4-6) to 2-2.  

Raven Pentz connected on back-to-back three pointers to spark an 8-0 Panther run to open the game for Old Westbury's largest lead of the night.  Mount Saint Mary climbed back into the game with an 11-5 spurt from 6:43 to 2:42 to pull within two points (13-11).  Old Westbury maintained the lead throughout the opening quarter to hold a 16-15 advantage at the end of 10 minutes of play.  

Crystal Barnes' jumper with 2:37 remaining in the half extended Old Westbury's lead to six points (27-21).  From there, Janae Graham scored four of Mount Saint Mary's final seven points as the Knights grabbed their first lead with 36 seconds left to take a 28-27 advantage into intermission.   

Jasmine Robinson opened the third quarter with a layup to put Old Westbury back in front (29-28) nine seconds into second-half action.  Robinson would then finish off a fast break with a layup to cap a 10-2 run for a seven-point lead (37-30).  Bridget Kelly's layup with 6:57 remaining in the quarter ignited 21-13 run over the next 11:35 for the Knights' 51-50 advantage.  Mount Saint Mary's lead was short lived as the Panthers answered with an 8-0 run to go back up by seven (58-51) with 3:42 left.  The Knights fought back as Megan Kerutis landed a three pointer with seven seconds showing on the fourth-quarter clock to make it a 69-66 game.  Pentz then iced the game with a pair of free throws for Old Westbury's 71-66 road win.  

Robinson paced the Panthers to victory with season-highs of 24 points (9-of-18 FG) and eight steals.  Pentz added a season-best 14 points to go with six assists (game-high) and four rebounds.  Barnes followed with nine points and eight rebounds.  

Kayla Cleare registered 16 points, 12 rebounds and three steals to lead Mount Saint Mary.  Jessica Rini added eight rebounds and four steals.  

Old Westbury shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) from the field while connecting on 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from three-point range and a season-best 69 percent (20-of-29) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Mount Saint Mary shot 35.9 percent (23-of-64) from the floor, 25 percent (3-of-12) from beyond the arc and 58.6 percent (17-of-29) at the charity stripe.  Mount Saint Mary won the boards battle, 47-38, and scored 18 second-chance points off 18 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury held the advantage in steals (13-11) and assists (14-10) while scoring 14 points off 20 Knight turnovers.   


YESHIVA MACCABEES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains on the road for Thursday's (Dec. 10) Skyline Conference matchup with the Yeshiva Maccabees at 7 p.m. from ARC Arena in Manhattan.
