GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Geneva Golden Tornadoes outlasted the Thiel Tomcats in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) women's basketball action Wednesday night at Beeghly Gymnasium, 63-59.
Tomcat freshman guard Jess Vormelker recorded her first collegiate double-double in the loss. She led the Tomcats with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Stoneman scored 12 points for the Tomcats while Taylor Ketler grabbed nine rebounds. Erin DiFalco also chipped in with nine points.
Heidi Mann and Miranda Heaney led the Golden Tornadoes with 17 points apiece while Lydia Songer tallied 12 points. Mann also recorded seven rebounds.
The Tomcats led by four points (52-48) early in the fourth quarter after Taylor Duchon connected on a layup, but the Golden Tornadoes responded with a 14-0 run to hold a 62-52 lead with a little more than three minutes remaining in regulation. The Tomcats cut the lead down to three points with 1:28 remaining, but the Golden Tornadoes refused to give up another point the rest of the way and earned the conference win.
The Tomcats will travel to Bethany, W.Va. Saturday to face the Bethany Bison in another PAC contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
