Big Blue Women's Basketball Suffers Road Defeat

    The Millikin women's basketball team lost 72-49 at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois on January 31.  The win allowed the Bluejays to move past Millikin in the CCIW standings.  Elmhurst is now 12-8, 5-4 while Millikin goes to 13-7, 4-5.
    The game opened with each team trading baskets before Elmhurst opened an advantage it would never relinquish.  Elmhurst led 34-26 at the half and pulled away in the second half leading by as many as 22 points at one stage.
    Elmhurst shot 42 percent in the game with Millikin shooting 35 percent.  A major difference in the game came behind the three-point arc where the Bluejays went 7-18 (39) percent while Millikin went 1-10 (10 percent).  Elmhurst had a big advantage at the free throw line as well connecting on 15-19 while Millikin only had seven free throw attempts making four of them.
    Sophomore Emma Hoyer came off the Millikin bench to lead the Big Blue in scoring a career 14 points and grabbing five rebounds.  Junior Hannah Millington scored 12 points with five rebounds.  Alyssa Saklak had a team high six rebounds, but was limited to six points.
    Claire Monroe led the Bluejays with 21 points and Mikaela Eppard had 13 points and eight rebounds.  Fiona McMahon had 10 points and six rebounds.
    Millikin will travel to Illinois Wesleyan on Feb. 4 at 7 p.m.
