Late Rally Lifts Millikin Women

          The Millikin women's basketball team used a late rally to defeat Augustana College 80-75 on January 24 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.

          Millikin opened the game strong building a 24-10 advantage with 12 minutes left in the half.  The Vikings would then go on a 30-10 run to close out the half and take a 40-34 lead into the locker room at halftime. 

          Millikin rallied to take the lead early in the second half, but the Vikings would again answer pushing the lead to eight at 70-62 with 8:36 left.   Millikin would close out the game with an 18-5 run to score the come from behind win.  Millikin would take the lead for good on a Holly Haskins jumper at 76-75 with 1:41 remaining.   Kelsey Going's two free throws made it 78-75 with 1:06 left to play.  Devin Curry would seal the win with a jumper with 17 seconds left to make it 80-75 Big Blue.

          Millikin shot 57 percent from the field including 61 percent in the second half.  The Vikings hit 39 percent from the field.  Millikin shot 60 percent from three point range (9-15) including making its first four threes and hitting five of six in the first half.

Augustana won the rebounding battle 34-33.

          Millikin had four players in double figures lead by Yip Ypya with 18 points.  Going had 14 points and eight rebounds.  Alyssa Saklak had 10 points and a team high nine boards.  Rachael Weber added 10 points.

          Augustana had a balanced attack with six players scoring in double figures led by Olivia Mayer with 18 points.  Andrea McNally had a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

          Millikin is now 13-5, 4-3 while Augustana goes to 7-11, 1-6.

          Millikin will host North Central on Wednesday, January 28 at 7 p.m.  The Cardinals are tied for first place in the CCIW and lead all of NCAA Division III in scoring.
