The Carthage women's basketball team (11-6, 4-2 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) got blitzed by CCIW-opponent and No. 22 North Central College (16-1, 5-1 CCIW), 101-72, on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Merner Fieldhouse/Gregory Arena in Naperville, Ill.

Carthage fell behind by 10 points, 16-6, in the first five minutes.  North Central extended its lead to 24 points, 40-17, at 8:56 and led by as much as 34 points in the first period, 60-26, at 2:28.  The Cardinals led by 30 at the break, 61-31.  The Lady Reds got no closer than 25 points in the second half, as North Central cruised to a 29-point decision, 101-72.

The Cardinals shot 44 percent (33-75), including 22-of-52 three-pointers, 16 of those in the first half on 31 attempts.  Carthage shot 42 percent (30-72), including just one-of13 from three-point range.  North Central got to free-throw line 21 times and made 13, while the Lady Reds connected on 11-of-17.  Carthage out-rebounded North Central by a 50-32 margin but turned the ball over 26 times to 14 for the Cardinals.  The Cardinals set a Carthage-opponent game record with 22 made three-pointers, shattering a mark of 13 set by Calvin College on Dec. 8, 2010.  North Central also set a Carthage-opponent game record with 52 three-point attempts, breaking a mark of 43 set by the Cardinals on Feb. 1, 2014.

North Central's Anita Sterling came off the bench to score 17 points on six-of-seven field goals, including five-of-five from three-point range.  Mayson Whipple added 14 points on five-of-nine shooting, including three-of-five three-pointers.  Carthage's Alexis Hahn (Jr., Itasca, Ill./Roselle-Lake Park) scored a game-high and a career-high 33 points on 13-of-26 field goals, along with a game-high 15 rebounds.  Taylor Boardman (Jr., Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) had 19 points on nine-of-14 shooting, along with seven boards, and Allison Riley (Sr., Cudahy, Wis.) came off the bench to add 11 points and eight rebounds.

Carthage travels to Wheaton, Ill., on Saturday, Jan. 24 to take on conference-opponent and No. 16 Wheaton College (Ill., 15-2, 5-1 CCIW) in a 5 p.m. game at King Arena.
