CANTON, N.Y. -- Behind 17 points from Caroline Dalton, St. Lawrence recorded a 65-45 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Liberty League women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Burkman Gym. With the loss, the Engineers drop to 9-7 on the season, with a 5-2 mark in league play, while the Saints improve to 10-4 overall, and 5-1 in the conference.
Dalton led St. Lawrence in the first half, scoring 11 points. Kara McDuffee followed with eight points, as the Saints held a 31-24 advantage at halftime. McDuffee finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards to help lead St. Lawrence, which shot 35.9 percent (23-64) from the floor.
RPI out-rebounded the Saints by a 49-37 margin, led by Shaina Iton, who pulled down a game-high 14 caroms for the Engineers. Amanda Lynch paced the Rensselaer scorers, finishing with a double-double of 19 points - a game-high - and 11 rebounds. Bailei Tetrault added eight points for the Engineers, who were held to 25.0 percent (14-56) shooting, including going just 2-for-11 from 3-point range.
Rensselaer will return to action next Friday, hosting William Smith at East Campus Arena at 6 p.m. The Saints will also hit the hardwood again on Jan. 23, visiting Vassar in continued Liberty League action.
