ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern University Women's Basketball won its fourth straight game by 25 points or more on Wednesday night behind a performance by sophomore forward Emily Lavin for the record books.

Lavin did not miss a field goal, shooting 14-for-14, and finished with 30 points as the Eagles routed the Wilkes University Colonels 88-49 in the Freedom Conference opener. Lavin's 100 percent shooting day is only the third time in NCAA Division III Women's Basketball history that someone has had a perfect shooting night with 14 or more field goals attempted (NCAA Record Book, p.2) .

Lavin felt great about the performance and made sure to credit her teammates for setting her up for good shots.  "It came a lot from the team and breaking the press," she said. "I think like half my points [Taylor] Price deserves because she would break the press and then hand it off to me. I think offensively we were really relaxed and played at a good tempo."

She added that the team felt prepared for Wilkes' defense based on what they had gone over in practice. "We were just active in the post and worked on moving off the ball and getting open, so I think everybody was looking for each other and had great looks."

Eagles' head coach Nate Davis said he's proud of the way that Lavin is realizing her potential. "Emily is a special kid, we knew that when we got her as a player that she had a lot of potential," he said, "and I think she's starting to realize that potential and gain in confidence but also mental focus and maturity and growing as a person. We're just really proud of Emily and seeing her have success like this is really well deserved. She's a hard-working kid and obviously a good team member and someone that you want to see succeed."

Joining Lavin in double-figures were Kaitlyn Dougherty (13 points) and Meghan Nowak (12 points). Gina DiDomenico and Taylor Price both had eight points, and Amanda Riiff added seven points.

The Eagles shot 51.5 percent from the floor overall and contained Wilkes to a 33.3 percent rate. Coach Davis attributed the offensive production to pressure on the defensive end. "In my mind, defense is where it started," he said. "We did a good job of stopping them and doing a good job of sticking to the gameplan defensively, harassing who we needed to harrass and making sure we were in help-side. To hold a team to 15 points in the first half makes things a lot easier on the offensive end."

The Eagles held Wilkes to just 4-of-26 shooting in the first half. Eastern won the overall turnover battle, forcing 17 and only giving away 11, and also out-rebounded Wilkes 51-27. Wilkes was led by 11 points from Elena Stambone and 10 from Chelsea Brown.

Eastern led from the first points of the game, two free throws by Lavin in the first minute. Lavin's only missed shots of the game were her remaining three free throws the rest of the game.

With one conference win in the books, the Eagles (6-1) will go after the Delaware Valley College Aggies on the road on Saturday in the only other first-semester conference game of the season.
