Second Half Run Leads Rams over Panthers

Farmingdale State - 72, Old Westbury - 58


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team defeated Old Westbury tonight, 72-58. The Rams improved to 15-8, 12-1 in conference play with the win, while the Panthers fell to 7-17, 5-8 in the Skyline.

In the first half, Farmingdale State trailed until the 5:34 mark when junior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) made a layup and was fouled, tying the game at 23-23. She made the free throw to give the Rams a 24-23 advantage, but Old Westbury ended the half on a 13-3 run to hold the 36-27 advantage at the break.

Farmingdale State scored nine straight points to open the second half and tie the game at 36. Old Westbury held a 42-41 lead with 14:32 remaining, but it would be their last lead of the game as the Rams went on a 20-1 run over the next six minutes and would hold a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

For Farmingdale State, Romero totaled 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals, while senior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) finished with 16 points, seven boards, and seven assists. Sophomore guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) was the third Ram in double figures with 14 points.

For the Panthers, DeAndra Scott posted 14 points and eight boards, while Jasmine Robinson finished with 12 points, four assists and three blocks. Chloe Mellon had 14 rebounds, six points and five blocks.
