ANNVILLE, Pa.Taylor Alwine was 2-for-8 from the floor in the game, but nailed the shot that mattered most, connecting on a game-winning jumper with 3.8 seconds remaining to lift the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team over Lebanon Valley, 48-46, Saturday afternoon in a pivotal Commonwealth Conference matchup. The Blue Jays hadn't beaten LVC since 2006, and Saturday's victory came almost eight years to the day since that win.

Elizabethtown (15-3, 9-3 CC) led for 19:25 of the first half, and only trailed for a span of ten seconds at 3-2. Peyton Carper hit a three for Lebanon Valley (15-4, 9-3 CC) at 18:34, but Taylor Kreider's layup at 18:24 put the Jays back into the lead for the remainder of the half.

E-town prides itself on defense, and the Blue Jays were extremely stingy in the opening half. The Dutchmen shot just 3-for-28 (10.7%) and scored just six points through the first ten minutes of the game.

Elizabethtown had trouble cashing in on the other end, however, as they only shot 8-for-29 (27.6%) from the field.

Alyssa Aichele grabbed the defensive board off Bridget Rothert's missed jumper and started E-town the other way. Nikki Thompson found Rachel Forjan, who canned the open jumper to push the Jays' advantage to 18-11 with just over three minutes to go in the first half. EC led by the same score at the break.

After neither squad led by more than three points through the majority of the first game the two schools played in January, E-town led by at least four points for the final 13:51 of the first half.

Out of the break, LVC used a 12-2 run to climb into the lead for the first time since the opening minutes of the contest. The spurt came after Rachel Forjan's fast-break layup. Caitlin Bach's shot was blocked by Alwine and the loose ball was picked up by Kreider, who went the length of the court before dishing off to Forjan for the easy two to make it 20-11.

Kendra Beittel, held scoreless in the first half, ended a four minute scoring drought for E-town, hitting from beyond the arc after Forjan's steal on the defensive end. Krissy Pennell drove the ball and kicked it out to Beittel, who hit the first of her two treys, putting the score at 24-23 with 14:46 to go.

After Beittel's three, the rest of the second half resembled the game from January, as each team went back and forth in the lead, one unable to pull away from the other.

With Kreider on the bench in foul trouble, Emily Young played key minutes in the second half, and contributed four points in nine minutes, going 2-of-2. She and Beittel combined for 12 straight Elizabethtown points. Young's jumper at 8:48 gave the Blue Jays a 33-30 lead. Beittel hit her second three-pointer of the game the possession before.

Down the stretch, there were three ties and no lead got bigger than two by either team.

Trailing by two points with less than three minutes left to play, Aichele was able to get position underneath and grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed free throw and put it back in to knot up the game at 44-44.

Out of an LVC timeout, E-town pressed full court, but couldn't come up with a steal, and Lauren Ruhl capitalized by hitting an open baseline jumper to put the Dutchmen back into the lead, 46-44.

Kreider came back out of an Elizabethtown timeout, drove to the hoop and hit the layup for the third tie in final five minutes.

The Jays forced Lebanon Valley into its 22nd turnover of the game with 21 seconds to go, leaving time for one shot and the chance at a victory.

As time ran off the clock, Kreider went to drive into the lane from the top of the key and met resistance. She passed the ball off to Alwine to her left. Alwine was able to split two defenders and pulled up for the jumper. Not fazed by the defensive pressure surrounding her, the junior forward's shot tickled the twine with 3.8 seconds left, giving E-town a 48-46 edge.

Lebanon Valley was unable to get a shot off before the clock expired.

The victory marks the 15th of the season for Elizabethtown, who had the same amount of wins all of last season.

Forjan led the way with 14 points. Beittel added ten points, all in the second half. Kreider finished with seven points and eight rebounds. Aichele had six steals, six boards, and three assists.

The women's basketball team moves back into a first-place tie in the conference at 9-3. They host Arcadia on Wednesday, February 5 at Thompson Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
