ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.Rachel Forjan tied a season-high with ten made field goals and Emily Martin grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds in the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team's 69-48 victory over Commonwealth Conference foe Stevenson Wednesday evening at Thompson Gymnasium. Forjan went 10-of-17 from the field for a game-high 25 points.

E-town (13-2, 7-2 CC) knew it could not take the Mustangs (8-8, 6-3 CC) lightly. Stevenson posted back-to-back victories over No. 17 Lebanon Valley and Messiah last week.

Forjan started off hot, scoring ten of the Jays' first 12 points. Taylor Alwine assisted on a Forjan jumper and then the sophomore guard stripped Stevenson's Ty Bender of the ball and drew the foul on the layup attempt. Forjan's ensuing free throws were good and Elizabethtown was up 12-4 by 14:51of the first half.

Brittney Page capped off a 16-7 run for the Mustangs and gave the visitors their first lead of the night at 20-19 after her three-point attempt was good. It was the only lead of the game SU would have. Twenty seconds later, Kendra Beittel's layup off a dish from Martin put the Blue Jays back into the lead for good.

Martin, meanwhile, owned the paint Wednesday evening. She collected eight boards in the opening half, including three of the offensive variety. The Lancaster Catholic product scored four of the final six points for E-town in the half as the Jays went into the locker room up 34-25.

Caitlin Roy cut the deficit to seven in the opening minute of the second half, but that was as close as Stevenson would get for the remainder of the game.

After holding the Mustangs to 31 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes, they clamped down even more in the second half. Stevenson connected on just 8-of-29 second-half shots (27.6%), and shot under 30 percent for the game. The Jays also held leading scorers Kayla Kelly (12.5 ppg) and Kyarra Harmon (9.6 ppg) to four points and two points, respectively.

Offensively, Elizabethtown was clicking. They were 15-of-35 (42.9%) from the floor in the first half and 11-of-22 (50.0%) in the second half.

Alwine (two free throws), Forjan (and-one), and Taylor Kreider (layup) scored seven straight for E-town as the lead blossomed from 14 to 21 in a three-and-a-half minute span. Kreider's jumper at 7:01 of the second half extended the Jays' lead to 27, the largest it would get on the night.

The Blue Jay defense held Stevenson to just eight points over the final five minutes as EC cruised to the 69-48 home victory.

Kreider tied a season-high with six made foul shots (out of eight) en route to scoring 16 points and missed another double-double by two boards. Beittel added 14 for the Jays, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Alwine had eight points and a team-best five assists.

The women's basketball team moves back into a first-place tie with Lebanon Valley after tonight's win. They host Lycoming this Saturday, January 25, for Alzheimer's Awareness Day at Thompson Gymnasium. Proceeds from the game will go to the Alzheimer's Unit at Masonic Village. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
