Buffalo State Pulls Away from Hamilton, 70-55

BUFFALO, NY—Senior guard Kala Crawford (Middle Falls/Saratoga Springs) recorded her first career double-double with career highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Buffalo State (7-2) over visiting Hamilton (6-5), 70-55, in a non-conference game today at the Sports Arena.

Olivia Luciani (Syracuse/E. Syracuse Minoa) was the only other Bengal to score in double-digits with 12 points.  Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) and Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) netted nine points each.  Mary Cain (Niagara Falls/Niagara Catholic) tallied a career best eight points and three steals, and Mariah Norris (Endicott/Union-Endicott) also scored eight points. 

Buffalo State opened up an early seven-point lead, but Hamilton took a 36-34 advantage into the intermission.  The Bengals opened the second half with a 10-2 run, but Hamilton led again briefly at 47-46 with 10 minutes remaining.  Buffalo State finally pulled away for good, assembling a 15-4 run over a nearly seven-minute stretch in the late stages of the second half. 

The Bengals shot 40-percent from the field, while the Continentals hit 31-percent from the floor.  Buffalo State dominated inside, owning a 50-37 rebounding advantage, and outscored Hamilton in the paint, 34-12. 

Buffalo State will return to SUNYAC play this Friday at Cortland at 6 p.m.
