Ursinus upends Gettysburg, 51-33

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Defense stood out for Ursinus (2-1, 1-0 Centennial) in its home opener on Wednesday night, as the women's basketball team defeated Gettysburg, 51-33, in the Centennial Conference opener for both squads.

Gettysburg (2-1, 0-1 Centennial), the pick of the coaches to repeat as conference champs, was held to just 21.7 percent shooting and made just four field goals in the second half.

Ursinus, winners of two straight, put three players in double figures paced by 14 from senior guard Diamond Lewis. Lewis also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and dished out eight assists.

Sophomore forwards Jessica Porada and Caroline Shimrock went for 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Gettysburg got nine points from senior guard Alyssa Isler and eight from senior forward Caroline Murphy.

Ursinus led 22-18 at intermission, and went out on a 9-0 run to start the second half to go up 31-18 and never look back. The Bullets would make a short 6-0 run to get within seven but would not get any closer.

The Bears went up by as much 18 in the second half, beating Gettysburg for the fourth straight time at home.

Ursinus heads to Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
