Montclair, NJ – Freshman guard-forward Shalette Brown (Somerset, NJ, Franklin Township) collected 19 points, 10 rebounds and nine steals to lead Montclair State University to a 65-52 victory over William Paterson University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest Wednesday evening at the Panzer Athletic Center.

Brown,, a five-time NJAC Rookie of the Week recipient, got help from sophomore guard Janitza Aquino (Kearny, NJ, Kearny), who scored a team-high 20 points and sophomore forward Melissa Tobie (Elizabeth, NJ, Roselle Catholic), who added 17 points. .

Montclair State, ranked 11thin the nation on the D3Hoops.com Top25 Poll and 12th in the USA Today/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Poll, remains one of six unbeaten teams in NCAA Div. III this season at 19-0 and tops the New Jersey Athletic Conference standings at 11-0

MSU, which has already set the school record for the best start to a season, tied the school mark for consecutive victories which was set during the 1977-78 season when it advanced to the AIAW Final Four in Los Angeles and also tied last year's win total. The Red Hawks, who snapped a seven-game losing streak in defeating William Paterson, 62-41, earlier this season, sweep the season series from the Pioneers for the first time since the 2001-02 season and lead the all-time series 40-34.

The nation's leader in scoring margin (30.7 ppg.) and ranked second in scoring defense (43.4 ppg.), Montclair State won by its closest margin and gave up its second-largest scoring total this season. MSU never trailed in the game, taking control from the tip. The Red Hawks made their first eight shots, including two 3-pointers by Aquino and two layups by Tobie, who scored 12 and 13 points, respectively, in the first half, to establish an 18-4 lead with 16:40 remaining in the opening stanza. Montclair State held the 14-point bulge, the biggest of the half, twice more, the last at 22-8 with 13:47 left.

William Paterson, which saw a three-game losing streak snapped, dropped to 13-6 on the year and 7-4 in NJAC play. The Pioneers got as close as seven points at 39-32 with 1:27 to go in the first half, following a 3-point field goal by junior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill), who scored a game-high 24 points in the game. WP never got any closer as MSU went into the halftime, ahead 41-32.
 
The Red Hawks came out flying again in the second half, quickly building the lead back up to double digits and never relinquishing it the rest of the way. MSU outscored William Paterson 17-7, including eight from Brown and five by Nicosia Henry (Bolingbrook, IL, Bolingbrook), who scored nine points in the contest, to take a 19-point advantage, the biggest of the game, at 58-39 with 9:56 left
 
Montclair State, which also leads nation in steals per game (19.2), pilfered 20 in the contest, the 11^th time that it has had 20 or more steals in a game. MSU also forced William Paterson into 30 turnovers, the 12th time this season the Red Hawks have forced the opposition into 30 or more turnovers.

Sophomore guard Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) scored in 10 points and junior forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinart) chipped in nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds for William Paterson.

Montclair State and William Paterson are back in action on Saturday with both teams hosting New Jersey Athletic Conference matchups. MSU plays Rutgers University-Camden at 3 pm while William Paterson meets Rowan University at 1 pm.
