Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton College women's basketball team was a 65-39 victor against Benedictine University (4-6) on Saturday night inside Wheaton's King Arena. The Thunder picked up its fifth consecutive victory and improved to 9-1 on the season with the win. Wheaton will be off until Jan. 2, 2013 when the Thunder hosts Illinois Wesleyan at 5 PM to open conference play.

The Eagles led Wheaton 4-2 through the first five minutes of tonight's game. A three-pointer by Wheaton senior Brooke Olson with 14:55 left in the first quarter sparked a string of 12 unanswered points by the Thunder to give the hosts a 14-4 lead with 12:20 left in the opening half.  Benedictine trimmed Wheaton's lead to 20-15 with 4:20 left in the first half, however, the Thunder responded by closing the half with a 14-3 scoring run that allowed Wheaton to hold a 34-18 lead at halftime.

Wheaton led by double digits throughout the entire second half and by 20 or more points for the majority of the final 20 minutes. Wheaton's largest lead of the game was 30 points, which happened twice in the game, the final time coming in the form of a 65-35 Thunder advantage with 48-seconds remaining in the game.

Olson led the Thunder with a career-high 26 points. She shot 9-for-15 from the field, including 6-for-10 from three-point range as she tied her career-high with six three-pointers. The Thunder point guard also distributed four assists, with four steals and four rebounds. Breanna Bohlen scored 11 points, with four assists. Hannah Considine, Maris Hovee and Jenn Lee each scored six points. Hovee grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, with four assists and three blocked shots, while Considine added six rebounds.

Wheaton shot 41.4% (24-58) from the field, with 45.8% (11-24) from three-point range and 42.9% (6-14) at the free throw line. The Thunder out-rebounded Benedictine 46-31, with a 15-8 edge for Wheaton on the offensive glass. Benedictine shot a 27.7% (13-47) field goal percentage, with 28.6% (6-21) from behind the three-point arc and 38.9% (7-18) at the free throw line.
