MILWAUKEE -- After holding its opponents to under 30 percent shooting on Saturday, Alverno College's defense could not stop the hot-shooting Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders on Tuesday night as the visitors ran away with a 68-50 result.

The Crusaders (2-0, 2-0 Northern Athletics Conference) shot 56.5 percent from the floor and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the 3-point line for the game, which was helped by their 16-of-22 and 4-of-7 performance in the second period when they outscored the host Inferno by 20 points.

Alverno (2-2, 1-1 NAC), which led 30-28 at halftime, went ice cold in the second half as the team shot just 24 percent (7-of-29) from the field and 0-of-6 from 3-point range. Additionally, Alverno was just 6-of-11 from the free-throw line after a perfect 4-of-4 performance in the first half.

Devon Gorman led the Inferno with a game-best 15 points on 6-of-15 shooting. The junior forward was 2-of-3 from long range and snagged a game-high six steals as well.

Kristen Speerschneider chipped in nine points on 3-of-10 shooting, while Kayla Kennedydistributed a game-high five assists and Jamie Hoernke grabbed six rebounds to lead the Inferno.

Four Crusaders scored in double-figures led by Autumn Peotter 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. Torey DeLozier had a game-high nine rebounds, chipped in 13 points and reached the milestone of 1,000-career points with her 10th of the game.

Alverno will look to bounce back from the loss with a league game on Saturday at Rockford College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Seaver Gymnasium.
