Oswego, NY-Freshman Alexis Smith (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) poured in a game-high 22 points to go with a team-high 9 rebounds to lead D'Youville to a 57-50 win over SUNY Cobleskill in the opening-round game of the Max Ziel/Oswego St. Tournament.

Shannon Dougherty (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) added 13 points and six rebounds in 38 minutes of play and Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) played 39 minutes adding 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals.

D'Youville led 27-24 at halftime and never trailed in the second-half. The Spartans played great defense down the stretch, holding SUNY Cobleskill to just one field-goal in the final 3:42.

The other great sign from the Spartans was that on roster with just two experienced collegiate players, the team committed just 14 turnovers and went giveaway free in the final 8:48 of the game.

The Spartan win marks career victory number one for Head coach Dan Glover. The twenty-four year old D'Youville grad said, "it was a great way to start the season and we need to follow today's effort with an even better one tomorrow."

D'Youville finished the 2011-12 season with a 4-21 record and won only one of their last 12 games.

D'Youville (1-0) will play in the championship game tomorrow (Nov. 17) at 4:00 p.m. versus the winner of tonight's SUNYIT-Oswego State game.
