WORCESTER, Mass. (Feb. 1, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College basketball team dropped a 65-52 decision to NEWMAC foe Clark University despite 14 points and six rebounds from senior forward Tricia Chase this evening at the Kneller Athletic Center. The Lyons fell victim to a 16-4 run over the final seven minutes of the first half and never recovered.

Chase was joined in double figures by junior guard Angelica Pascual, who posted 12 points. First year forward Amber Legare added nine points and 12 boards. Meanwhile, junior guard Jasmine Brown tallied nine points, five assists and five rebounds. Mount Holyoke converted 37.7% (20-53) of its shots from the field and finished with a 37-32 advantage on the glass.

Sophomore Emily Reilly set the tone for Clark with her outstanding all-around play. In addition to piling up 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor, the guard also dished out six assists and pulled down six rebounds. She drained two shots from beyond the arc. The Cougars also received solid production from forward Megan Grondin and guard Ashleigh Condon, who collected 14 points apiece.

As a team, Clark (14-6, 10-3 NEWMAC) knocked down 53.3% (24-45) of its shots from the field and 93.3% (14-15) of its free throws. The hosts scored 27 points off 22 Mount Holyoke turnovers. In the process, they completed the season sweep of the Lyons and ran their winning streak to four.

Mount Holyoke trailed 22-16 following a three-pointer by Pascual at the 7:04 mark of the opening period, but the Cougars answered with eight straight points and took a 38-20 edge into the locker room. From there, they maintained a double digit lead throughout the second half.

The Lyons (3-16, 1-12 NEWMAC) will resume their NEWMAC slate at home versus MIT on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
