After a tight start to the game, the University of Redlands women's basketball team fired off a 15-0 run that led to a solid 67-54 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) victory over the visiting Regals of Cal Lutheran University on Thursday. As senior guard Mariah Barbetti-Cort racked up 26 points and 13 rebounds in a complete-game performance, the Bulldogs made it five in a row to remain in a first-place tie among the conference standings.

During Redlands' initial scoring spurt, junior guard Ashley Sevilla (San Diego, CA), sophomore guard Marika Staton (El Centro, CA) and senior forward Courtney Carroll (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) all knocked down three-pointers, resulting in the 24-7 lead.

However, Cal Lutheran answered with a 17-4 run of its own that cut the deficit to four points with 5:49 to go in the opening frame.

Nonetheless, the Bulldogs responded with a solid push to finish out the half with a score of 40-29, highlighted by eight of Barbetti-Cort's game-high 26 points.

Although neither team shot particularly well, Redlands controlled the tempo during the second half. The Maroon and Gray quickly made it a 20-point game as freshman guard Kaity Lykins (Simi Valley, CA) capped off this run with a jumper at the 14:35-mark. Lykins finished with 12 points and five rebounds.

The Regals rallied back to make it a 49-62 with freshman guard Keeley Anderson (Orange, CA) sinking her only shot of the game with 3:59 to go.

But the Bulldogs refused to let up in the waning minutes, prevailing by a score of 67-54.

Overall, Redlands shot 40%, compared to CLU's 29.9% performance. The Bulldogs also earned a 49-37 rebounding advantage.

In a well-rounded effort, Carroll provided 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five blocks for the Maroon and Gray.

The Regals (9-6, 3-2 SCIAC) were led by junior forward Channing Fleischmann (Reno, NV) with 11 points.

Redlands (11-5, 5-0 SCIAC) heads to Caltech on Saturday for a SCIAC doubleheader against the Beavers. The women tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at approximately 7 p.m.
