Gaudet Leads Anchorwomen Past York, 62-44

Jamaica, N.Y.Senior guard Cynthia Gaudet (Coventry, R.I.) scored 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting to go along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team easily downed winless York (NY), 62-44, on Thursday evening.

 

Senior guard Stephanie Coro (North Providence, RI) contributed 11 points, while senior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) pitched in with six points and a team-high seven rebounds.

 

York (0-12) performed well on defense, holding Rhode Island College (8-2) to just 31 percent shooting, but the Cardinals fared worse on offense, shooting just 28 percent on the night.  RIC also held a 53-39 rebounding advantage on the night.

 

The Cardinals kept it close early, but an 11-0 run midway through the first half turned a two-point game into a 13-point lead for the Anchorwomen. Junior guard Cassie Novicky (New Milford, CT) capped the run with a three-pointer to make the score 24-11. The game was never close from that point on, as the Anchorwomen took a 14-point advantage into the locker room and were able to maintain that comfortable lead throughout the second half.

 

Despite the loss, York got a nice game from Shadae Rice, who netted 14 points and handed out four assists. Vania St. Louis chipped in eight points and Stayce Kay Muirhead grabbed 10 rebounds.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference play at home against UMass Boston on Saturday, Jan. 7 (1 p.m.).
