More news about: Eastern Nazarene

QUINCY, Mass. - The Eastern Nazarene Lions collected their first Commonwealth Coast Conference win against the Wentworth Leopards on Saturday afternoon in the Lahue Center. Junior Ace Carradine knocked down four threes and led all players with 16 points and seven assists, while also pulling down seven rebounds. With the win, ENC improves to 4-3 (1-1 CCC) on the year, already surpassing the team's win total from 2010-2011.

Wentworth opened the game with an 8-2 run behind six straight points from junior Ashley Conway, but Eastern Nazarene mounted a run of their own after junior Mel Green hit a three pointer to cut the Leopard's lead to three. The Lions would capitalize on eight WIT turnovers in the following 10 minutes to gain their largest lead of the half at 24-10, before taking a 13-point, 28-15 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, WIT would come out fighting, cutting the lead to 11 after a Kendra Kerr jumper. Again the Lions would respond, finding a way to get the ball inside to junior Shardae Brown, who the Leopards defended well in the first half. Eastern Nazarene   led by as many as 24 before the buzzer sounded with the final score reading 52-30.

The win over WIT marked ENC's first in the last eight meetings between the two schools.

The Lions put forth a strong effort on the boards, out-rebounding the Leopards 51 to 33. Sophomore Dianna Bonds was the game's top rebounder, collecting 10 in 30 minutes of action. Teammates Alexis Malloy and Green collected seven and eight off of the glass, respectively.

Freshman Kori Sorensen showed prowess from the outside, hitting two three-pointers and scoring 10 points on 3-5 shooting. Brown was able to score eight points and grab five rebounds, despite being swarmed by Leopard defenders in the paint.

"I thought we played as a team today," head coach Sacha Santimano said. "We distributed the ball well and played unselfishly."

For the Leopards, sophomore Kerr was a standout, collecting 11 points, six rebounds and two steals. Conway was Wentworth's other player in double figures, scoring 10 and securing an additional six boards. Classmate Morgan Furman chipped in seven points and led the Leopards with seven rebounds.

Eastern Nazarene travels to Brandeis to face the Judges on Monday, December 5th before Christmas break. With the loss, WIT drops to 0-6 on the year, and 0-2 in CCC play. Wentworth returns to Boston to face St. Joseph (Conn.) on December 7th.
