More news about: St. Lawrence

Three Saints finished in double-figures and 11 players put points up on the board.  Sophomore Kelly Legg had a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds, while co-captains Katie Edgerton and Casey Capello added 15 points each.  Edgerton rounded up seven rebounds and had a great game defensively.  Meanwhile, Capello drained five of the team's 12 total 3-pointers.  Senior Iris Santoni dished out nine assist game-high nine assists and added a 3-pointer.

First-year student Maddy Wetterhahn tallied five points and six boards for the Saints, while the junior Erica Spera also chipped in five points and came up with two steals.

St. Lawrence owned a 47-30 advantage at the half but saw its lead dwindle as it was held to only three points over a five minute stretch midway through the second half.  Meanwhile, the Blue Knights took advantage and went on 13-3 run to cut the margin to 63-56.

MSM's Becky Metzger brought her team to within two points at 70-68 on a lay-up with 2:11 left to play, but consecutive baskets by Legg and Spera gave St. Lawrence a 74-68 cushion.  Metzger was sent to the line with 41 seconds on the clock and made the first to bring the score to 74-69, but two more free throws by Edgerton in the final seconds helped seal the 76-69 victory for the Saints.

St. Lawrence finished 27-of-62 (43.5) from the floor, and held a 23-16 advantage in points off turnovers.  Mount St. Mary finished the night 25-for-53 (47.2%) and held a 24-16 edge on points in the paint.

The Saints will meet nationally-ranked #1 and the NCAA Tournament defending champion Amherst tomorrow.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
