FARMINGTON, Maine -- The fourth-seeded University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team advanced to the North Atlantic Conference semifinals with a 77-51 victory over No. 5 Lyndon State College tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Beavers improved to 12-13 and advance to the NAC semifinals on Friday at Husson University. Farmington scheduled to face top-seeded Husson at 6 p.m. 

Ashley Busque (Belgrade, Maine) and Jillian Ross (Belfast, Maine) each scored 13 points for Farmington, while Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine) added 12 points and Emma Morrison (Saco, Maine) chipped in 11 points.

The Beavers, leading 30-22 at intermission, outscored the Hornets 42-17 over the first 14:39 of the second half to pull away from Lyndon for a 72-39 command. For the game, Farmington shot 47.5 percent (29-61) from the field, while the Hornets shot 25 percent (15-60), including only 12.5 percent (3-24) from beyond the arc. Farmington's defense was headlined by Paige Saunders (Surry, Maine) with six blocks and Norton with four thefts.

Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.) led all scorers with 15 points for Lyndon, while Maisie Sanchez (Waterbury, Conn.) came off the bench to score nine points.

The Beavers strolled out to a 21-5 lead over the first 11 minutes of the game, holding the Hornets without a field goal for a 7:50 stretch. Morrison, Norton and Ross each scored seven points as Farmington led 30-15 with two minutes left to play in the half, but Sanchez scored five points to lead a 7-0 run to close the gap to 30-22 at intermission.

Norton scored five points in a 7-0 start to the second half for a 37-22 lead. The Beavers held a 43-28 lead with 16:08 to play when a three-point play by Ross and a Lindsay Gordon (Winslow, Maine) layup pushed the lead to 48-28 with 14:14 to play.

With a 56-36 cushion, the Beavers outscored the Hornets 16-3 over the next four minutes to put the contest away. Layups by Katherine Gagne (Dixfield, Maine) and Kelsey Graffam (Falmouth, Maine) on back-to-back trips built lead to 72-39 with 5:21 to play with Farmington cruising into the NAC semifinals with the 77-51 victory.
