BEREA, OHIO –  Senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds as the Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated rival Ohio Northern University, 67-64, today (Saturday, February 19, 2011) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center.  This was the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader that is being televised by SportsTime Ohio. The B-W and ONU men tipoff at 4:00 p.m.

With its win, B-W improved to 18-7 overall and ended the OAC regular season at 13-5 and secured the number two seed in next Tuesday's first round of the OAC Tournament where they will play cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Ursprung Gym at 7:30 p.m.  In addition to Schroeder for freshman forward Jessica Lairson (Louisville) had 16 points. With its loss, ONU is now 16-9 overall and 11-7 in the OAC. The Polar Bears were led by senior guard Jeanne Bockey with 17 points and junior forward Kara Dysert had 16 and freshman center Cenzie Yoder with 14.

With her 19 points tonight, Schroeder now has 1,364 career points to rank third all-time, and she needs 16 points more to surpass B-W Hall of Famer Debbie Crider for second place. Crider scored 1,379 career points.

In the first half, ONU jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Yoder scored on a layup.  B-W gained its first lead of the game at 5-4 at the 17:17 on Schroeder's layup.  The Polar Bears used a 5-1 run over a span of 2:20 to extend their lead 10-5 at the 14:11 mark and Yoder had eight of the team's 10 points. 

The Polar Bears built their lead to seven points at 15-8 but the Yellow Jackets used a 7-0 run to tie the ballgame at 15-15 at the 9:06 mark on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Rachel Rossman (Olmsted Falls).  The Jackets regained the lead at 18-17 with 7:30 remaining on a free throw by sophomore guard Olivia French (Bucyrus/ Colonel Crawford) after trailing for nearly 10 minutes of action. 
 
ONU then had two leads and the game was tied twice, with the last at 23-23, before B-W scored four straight points to lead 27-23 at the 3:00 mark when  Lairson connected on a jumper.  However, the Polar Bears went on an 8-0 run to gain a 31-27 advantage with 1:47 remaining in the half when senior center Brittany Bogart connect on a pair of free throws.  B-W senior guard Ali Stack (Vermilion/ Firelands) connected with a three-pointer at the buzzer to bring the halftime score to 31-30.

In the second half, B-W used a 5-0 run to regain the lead at 35-31 on a pair of free throws from freshman forward Lexi Rohrback (Tiffin/Columbian).  The Polar Bears answered back with four straight points to tie the score at 35-35 with 18:34 remaining.  The Yellow Jackets built a lead of 43-39 with 14:42 remaining when Schroeder connected on an "old-fashioned" three-point play.  ONU then outscored B-W 7-2 to reagin the lead at 46-45 with 9:17 remaining on layup from Bockey. 
 
After exchanging leads, B-W gained its largest lead of the game of five points, using a 6-0 run, and led 53-48 with 7:33 remaining when Schroeder connected on a three-pointer.  The Polar Bears clawed back cutting the lead to 56-54 with 6:08 remaining on a layup from Yoder.  ONU cut the lead to one point at 60-59 until B-W connected on a layup from Lairson with 2:57 remaining making the score 62-59.
 
Coming out of a team timeout, Polar Bear sophomore forward Joanna Snyder connected on a three-pointer to tie the game at 62-62 with 1:47 remaining.  The Yellow Jackets answered right back with a layup from Jessica Carpenter (North Canton/ Hoover) to make it 64-62 with 1:19 left.  ONU came right back to make two free throws tying the game at 64-64 with 1:04 left.  However, B-W connected on a layup from Lairson to lead 66-64 with 47 seconds remaining. A Schroeder free throw with 26 seconds left gave B-W a 67-64 advantage.
ONU had one last chance to tie, but its three-pointer was off the mark and time ran out on the Polar Bears.

Following Tuesday's first round OAC Tournament game, if B-W wins, it will host a semifinal game on Thursday, Feb. 24 in Berea at 7:30 p.m. The OAC Championship Game is on Saturday, Feb. 26. Today's B-W versus ONU doubleheader was taped is being televised by SportsTime Ohio. The women's game will air on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 6:00 p.m. and the men at 8:00 p.m. The women's game also will be shown on Monday, Feb. 21 at 5:00 a.m. The men's game also will be shown on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 12:00 noon and on Monday at 7:00 a.m.
