Oswego State Drops Season Finale Versus Geneseo, 66-47

The Oswego State women's basketball team could not carry the success of Friday night's game into the weekend, as the visiting Geneseo Blue Knights wrapped up the 2010-11 regular season with a 66-47 win over the Lakers. The win moved SUNYAC leader Geneseo to 22-3 (17-1 in SUNYAC play), while the loss dropped Oswego State to 11-14 (8-10 in SUNYAC play).

Kristen Diglio went 3-for-7, scoring all nine of her points from beyond the arc, and came away with five boards. Teammate Meagan Stover shot 3-for-9, adding nine more points and three boards. The combination of Karolyn Kipper, Kassie Kleine and Taryn Smith came off the bench to put up 18 of Oswego State's 47 points.

Geneseo's Bri Dunton went 5-for-11, including 3-for-6 in treys, and led the team with 13 points and four assists. Teammate Lea Sobieraski came off the bench to shoot 5-for-5 and score 12 points. Geneseo's bench ran deep Saturday afternoon, as a total of six non-starters entered the game to contribute 27 points to the scoring effort. Alyssa Polosky led the team with eight boards while Brittany Finkle and Khadija Campbell each came down with seven.

The Blue Knights started quickly, taking a 7-0 lead that they would either maintain or expand for the remainder of the contest. Geneseo scored 24 points off turnovers to Oswego State's seven, while outscoring the Lakers in the paint, 32-8.

Before the game, Oswego State recognized its four graduating seniors, Traci Bacon, Kristen Diglio, Colleen McCready, and Wanda Sanchez for their contributions to the program.

With the regular season finished, the Lakers move on to the SUNYAC quarterfinals as the #6-seed where they will face #3-seed New Paltz, Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
