After clinching a postseason spot with two consecutive wins on the road, the Oswego State women's basketball team fell to visiting New Paltz 68-53 Tuesday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium. In spite of the loss, Laker fans celebrated Kayla Ryan, who scored her 1,000th career point with the team on a free throw midway through the first period that tied the score at 15.  The loss dropped Oswego State to 10-13 overall and 7-9 in SUNYAC play, while the victory improved New Paltz's record to 15-9 overall and 13-4 in the league.

Ryan shot 2-for-11 and scored 12 points including nine boards and two steals. Teammate Meagan Stover went 4-for-9, scoring 13 points including four boards and four steals.

New Paltz' Zoe Cohen shot 7-for-12, including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc on the way to scoring 19 points. Maliqua Fisher added 15 points to The Hawks' cause while Kaitlin Clifford went 2-for-5, shooting 2-for-3 in treys. Collectively, Oswego State struggled in three-point attempts, converting only 1-of-13.

Leading 20-19 with little more than five minutes remaining in the first period, the Hawks created a major momentum shift with a 15-0 run that included three of Cohen's three-pointers. Oswego State was held for the final 9:19 without a field goal, entering halftime trailing, 35-19, and was never able to recover.

Ryan became the ninth player in Oswego State women's basketball history to join the 1,000-point club.

The Laker women continue their home stand when they host Brockport (6-17 overall, 4-12 in SUNYAC play) Friday night at 6 p.m. as part of the annual "Pink Zone" game.
