Winchester, Va. – The Avenging Angels had a big day in Shenandoah, defeating the Hornets 69-65 and with Megan Rahn passing the 1,000 career mark.  Meredith snapped a seven game losing streak with the win.  Rahn now has 1,018 career points and is now the seventh all time scorer for the Avenging Angels, passing Ruth Stephenson (1,008).

The Avenging Angels jumped out early on the cold shooting Hornets and took a 12 points advantage at 25-13 on a jump shot by Kristin Stewart with six minutes remaining in the first half. Meredith held the  31-24 halftime lead.

The second half saw Meredith (5-14, 2-12 USA South) hold off several surges by Shenandoah (10-10, 6-7) and retake a 12 point lead with five minutes remaining.  Key free throws down the stretch by Bryana Holmes, Stewart and Rahn would seal the win for Meredith.

Rahn's 20 points set the pace for Meredith and was the high scorer for Meredith.  A strong performance from Stewart with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds proved to be the difference.  Holmes added 12 points for Meredith.  Shenandoah's Sierra Edwards had 24 points and Crystal Petrus had 21.

Meredith outrebounded the Hornets 48-42 and were hotter from the floor at 40% compared to 32%.

Meredith returns to action Wednesday as the Avenging Angels host Ferrum at 7 p.m. in a WBCA PinkZone game to benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.  All attendees are encouraged to wear pink and participate in special events at the game.
