BULLDOGS USE BALANCED TEAM EFFORT TO INCREASE CUNYAC MARK TO 7-2 BY DOWNING BEAVERS 77-53

The City College of New York women's basketball team (2-17 Overall, 1-8 CUNYAC) dropped a conference contest on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College (11-8 Overall, 7-2 CUNYAC) by a score of 77-53 at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in Upper Manhattan.

Four different players scored in double figures for Brooklyn, and the Bulldogs shot 49.3 percent from the field in their victory. Leading the way was Elisha Raiford as she connected on seven of her nine shots from the floor and pulled down seven rebounds while dishing three assists. Ariel Smith dropped in 15 points and snatched nine boards. Justine O'Callahan added 14 points and seven caroms, and finally it was Lauren Plagainos chipping in with 11 points and four steals.

The Bulldogs hit on 33 of their 67 shots from the floor, and also did a tremendous job of spreading the ball around, recording 24 assists. Brooklyn College also won the turnover battle, minimizing their mistakes by committing just 14 miscues, compared to 24 for CCNY. The Bulldogs tallied 16 steals compared to five for the Beavers.

Despite the loss for CCNY, speedy point guard Donika Rexhepi had her second consecutive impressive performance, as she recorded a team-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds and a pair of steals. Simone Tharkur hit six of her nine shots and finished the afternoon with 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals, and Syreeta Williams had six points and nine rebounds for the home team.

The Beavers shot just 33.3 percent from the field (19-57), but the team did make the most from its opportunities at the charity stripe, as CCNY connected on 15 of their 18 attempts there. City College also out-rebounded Brooklyn by a margin of 40-37 on the day.

The Beavers will return to action on Monday evening as CCNY will take on the Dolphins of the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a non-conference contest at the Nat Holman Gymnasium, with start-time scheduled for 7:00pm.
