UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Mount Union's nationally ranked women's basketball team avenged an earlier loss to John Carroll with its best offensive game of the season and claimed a 94-79 decision in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.

Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) scored 18 points while Taylor Hartung (Canton/Massillon Perry) recorded a career-high 15 points. Hartung also had six rebounds and four assists for the Purple Raiders, who shot 58.6 percent from the field.

Lauren Forquer (North Canton/Green) added a season-high 14 points and Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) put in 10 for the victors. Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) had four assists.

After John Carroll went ahead 2-0, the Raiders answered back with six consecutive points -- four by Rose -- and never relinquished the lead.

A nine-point streak helped Mount Union build a 29-14 advantage with 11:42 remaining in the first half.

Later on, five Purple Raider scorers contributed to a 13-0 run, including Forquer who led with four. The stretch ended with a Forquer jumper, putting Mount Union up 52-27 before intermission.

With 14:48 left in the contest, Kelly Evans (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) buried a 3-pointer to give the Raiders their largest lead at 28 points -- 68-40 -- with 14:48 on the clock.

Lee Jennings powered the Blue Streaks (10-8, 5-6) with 39 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Missy Spahar and Emilee Ritchie added 21 and 15 points, respectively.

With the win and an Ohio Northern loss on Wednesday, the Purple Raiders (15-3, 8-3) are now in sole possession of second place in the OAC.

The Polar Bears (12-6, 7-4) lost to Otterbein, 79-65, and fell into a third-place tie with Muskingum (9-9, 7-4), which defeated Marietta, 66-54.

Baldwin-Wallace (15-3, 10-1) still has a firm grasp on the top spot after its 67-43 victory over Heidelberg.

Mount Union, which is ranked 18th by D3Hoops.com and is tied for 22nd on the ESPN/USA Today poll, will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Capital at 2 p.m.
