Oswego State Handed 77-48 Loss By New Paltz

The Oswego State women's basketball team closed out the first half of its' SUNY Athletic Conference with a 77-48 loss to New Paltz Tuesday night in New Paltz. The Lakers found themselves facing a 30-point halftime deficit after shooting 17.6 percent (4-of-23) from the field, and were never able to get back into the contest. Oswego State fell to 7-9 overall and 4-5 in the conference standings, while the Hawks improved to 9-7 overall and 7-2 in the league.

Kayla Ryan hit a pair of free throws for two of her team-leading 12 points to tie the game at 6-6 with 16:49 remaining in the first half. Both squads were scoreless for the next two minutes until New Paltz's Zoe Cohen hit a three-pointer to trigger a 20-1 run in a five-minute span to make the score 26-7. The Hawks continued to build their lead until they went into halftime with a commanding 47-17 advantage.

The teams went back-and-forth in the second half as the Lakers out-scored the opposition in the stanza, but Oswego State was never able to pull within 30 points until a Karolyn Kipper basket at the end of the game made the score 77-48.

Neither team took care of the ball as both squads committed a combined 66 turnovers. However, the Hawks dominated the boards with 49 rebounds, including 23 on the offensive end, compared to 28 total boards for the Lakers. New Paltz was led by 17 points from Zoe Cohen off of the bench.

Oswego State will look to get back on track on Friday when it hosts Buffalo State at Max Ziel Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
