Big Three Powers Westfield Past Fitchburg, 70-50

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Westfield State Unversity's Big Three of Ashley Finnegan, Cassy Jouannet and Briana Kelly combined for 57 points and 25 rebounds to power the Owls to a 70-50 victory over Fitchburg State University on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

The Owls upped their record to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in the MASCAC with the key road victory. Fitchburg is 8-8 and 2-3.

Finnegan and Jouannet again posted double-doubles while Kelly broke open the game with her 3-point shooting. Finnegan had games highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds and Jouannet totaled 17 points, 10 boards, four assists and three blocked shots. Kelly scored 19 points, canning 5 of 8 shots from beyond the arc. Also, the Big Three combined for eight assists, five blocks and three steals.

Westfield bolted to a 12-0 lead in the opening five minutes and led 33-20 at halftime. The Owls quickly expanded their lead to 21 points in the opening two minutes of the second half on a Jouannet jumper and two 3-points baskets by Kelly. Fitchburg pulled within 11 points, 57-46, with 7:39 but Westfield pulled away in the closing minutes..

The Falcons shot 26 percent from the field on their homecourt. Rebecca Goreham led the host squad with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Owls also received a fine floor game from sophomore Jenny Bell, who had six points, five rebounds, two assists and a game-high seven steals.
