Centenary College Outlasts Women's Basketball in Overtime, 71-62

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team dropped its second straight game on Saturday afternoon at Nerney Field House, suffering a 71-62 overtime loss against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Centenary College. The Cyclones out-scored the Cavaliers, 17-8, in the extra session en route to the victory.

Junior guard Laura Caron led the Cabrini offense, scoring a team-best 13 points. Freshman guard Brittany Sandone also reached double figures, posting 11 points.

Freshman forward Colleen Stewart continues to be the Cavaliers' catalyst in the rebounding department, notching 14 boards versus the Cyclones. Stewart paired seven points with her effort on the glass.

Senior guard Julie Bonomo chipped in nine points, all from beyond the 3-point stripe. Freshman guard MaryKate McCann added eight points.

Trailing by four points, 54-50, late in the second half, consecutive baskets from Caron tied the game with 2:55 remaining. Caron's 3-point try at the horn kicked off the iron and forced overtime.

Centenary opened the extra period on a 6-0 run, extending its lead to 60-54 with 3:18 remaining. The Cavaliers answered with five straight and trimmed their deficit to just one, 60-59, at the 2:21 mark following a 3-point play from Stewart.

However, the Cyclones seized control of the game with an 11-0 run over the next 2:08, pushing their advantage to 12 points, 71-59, with just 13 ticks on the clock.

Junior guard Jen Vasta led the Centenary attack with a game-high 20 points, including 18 point scored in the second half and overtime combined. Senior forward Marissa DiStasio pulled down 17 rebounds in the victory.

The loss is the Blue & White's second straight against Centenary, dating back to last season. The Cavaliers' 2009-10 campaign ended last year with a last-second 67-66 defeat versus the Cyclones in the CSAC Tournament.

Cabrini (4-11, 3-4 CSAC) is back in action on Monday, Jan. 24 at home against CSAC foe Neumann University. Game time against the Knights is set for 6 p.m.
