Centenary Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Cedar Crest

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (January 24, 2011) – Four players finished in double figures as every Cyclone scored at least one point in Centenary's 98-59 win over Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Cedar Crest, Monday in Hackettstown, N.J. With the victory, the Lady Cyclones improved to 9-7, 6-2 in the CSAC, while the Falcons fell to 5-10, 1-8 in conference.

Every member of the team played at least six minutes in the contest. Centenary scored 26 fast break points while holding Cedar Crest to just two and scored 46 points in the paint to 12 for the road team. The Lady Cyclones held the Falcons to 34.3 percent shooting (24-of-70) and just two free throw attempts.

Junior guard Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) led the way with 18 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists. Fellow classmate Colleen Collins (Colmar, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) came off the bench to score 15 points, including 13 in the first half. Freshman Ashley Bays (Hackettstown, N.J./Morris Catholic) hit four three-pointers en route to 14 points and sophomore Danielle Trucksess (Collingswood, N.J./Collingswood) shot four-of-four, including three three-pointers, to tally 11 points.

Freshman Melissa Kukoda (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) tallied a personal-best eight assists, as well as five points, three rebounds, two steals and one block. Sophomore Katy DeGraw (Tyler Hill, Pa./Honesdale) led the team with 10 rebounds, the fifth time this season she has grabbed double digit boards. Lizzy Sunderhaus finished with 12 points and 16 rebounds for Cedar Crest.

A sluggish first half saw the Cyclones up, 12-9, with 13:12 remaining. But Centenary closed out the period on a 31-8 run and went into the locker room with a 43-17 halftime lead. In the second stanza, the home team increased its lead to as many as 41 before winning by 39.

The Cyclones return to action on Thursday, Jan. 26, with a road game at Neumann at 6:00 p.m., as part of a double header with the men's team, who will face the Knights at 8:00 p.m.
