Regals Dominate on Ends to Defeat Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. - A complete team effort helped Cal Lutheran (9-7, 3-2 SCIAC) defeat the Caltech Beavers (0-16, 0-5 SCIAC) 72-40 Wednesday evening as twelve of the sixteen Regals who saw action contributed to the team's second straight SCIAC road win.

Box Score: CLU 72, CIT 40 - F

Regal guard Chelsey Hastigan led all scorers with a career-high 17 points, all scored in the first half, with teammate Erica Whitley adding another ten points of her own during her 11 minutes of action.

After scoring the first point of the game on a free throw, the Regals saw Caltech take a 2-1 lead at the 18:28 mark of the first half. From that point on, the Regals outscored their opponents 18-7 during the next eight minutes of action and began to pull away from the host Beavers.

Entering the locker room at the half with a 38-19 lead, the Regals wasted no time in extending their advantage as they went on a 6-0 run to further distance themselves from their opponents.

Dominating on both ends of the floor from start to finish, Cal Lutheran was able to score 24 points off of 14 Caltech turnovers, dominate the low post area by outscoring the Beavers in the paint by a 24-14 margin, and secure their third conference victory of the season thanks to a 40-point effort by their bench players as every Regal saw action in Thursday evening's game.

Cal Lutheran will return to action this Saturday evening when they face the La Verne Leopards (12-14, 5-10 SCIAC), tip-off will take place at Gilbert Arena at 5 pm.
