HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (January 20, 2011) – The Centenary College women's basketball team (7-7, 4-2 CSAC) stormed back from a 16-point first half deficit to take the lead midway through the second half, only to be undone by Marywood's 18-1 run to end the contest and the Cyclones fell by a score of 78-61 in Folkner Family Gymnasium on Thursday Night.

Junior Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) led a Centenary squad that struggled to gain an offensive rhythmn in the first half. Vasta poured in 13 of her game-high 21 points in the first half, connecting on three shots from beyond the arc. The Cyclones shot just over 30 percent from the floor in the first half and Marywood led by as many as 16 before entering the halftime break up 11. Senior forward Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) grabbed 10 of her game-high 15 rebounds in the first half.

The Cyclones came out of the second half energized and immediately cut into the deficit. Junior guard Jasmine Rosa (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) scored six of her nine points in the opening minutes of the half and the Cyclones clawed back to tie the game 41-41. The game remained tight throughout the next 10 minutes of game action as both teams found their shooting stroke. Freshman Ashley Bays (Hackettstown, N.J./Morris Catholic) drained two shots from beyond the arc during the stretch and the game was knotted at 60-60 with just over five minutes remaining the contest.

It appeared that the energy used to spend the entire game climbing out of a deficit finally took a toll on the Cyclones as they ran out of gas and Marywood used an 18-1 to close out the game. Mariah Schaeffer led the Pacers with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Allison Bruet added 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.

The rebounding margin was even at 37-37, but Centenary was undone by 23 turnovers and a 39 percent shooting night. Marywood committed only 12 turnovers and got 24 points off turnovers that they forced.

The Cyclones return to action on Saturday, Jan. 22, when they travel to face conference foe Cabrini at 1:00 p.m.
