ALLENTOWN, Pa. (January 10, 2011) – Centenary women's basketball junior Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) became the fifth player in program history to pass the 1,000-point threshold, scoring a game-high 30 points to lead the Lady Cyclones (5-6, 2-1 CSAC) to an 80-58 win over Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Cedar Crest (4-6, 0-4 CSAC), Monday in Allentown, Pa.
Vasta now has 1,021 points for her career and stands in fifth-place in program history on the all-time scoring list. The junior shot 12-of-18 against the Falcons, six-of-seven from the free throw line and tallied a career-high nine steals, along with seven rebounds, one assist and one block.
Junior Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) joined Vasta in double figures, tallying 12 points on six-of-12 shooting. She also collected four rebounds, four steals and one block. Senior Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy), the program's all-time leading rebounder, let the squad with nine boards. She also recorded eight points and two steals. Liz Sunderhaus led the Falcons with 20 points and 20 rebounds.
As a team, Centenary recorded 22 steals and benefited from 31 Cedar Crest turnovers, scoring 16 fastbreak points to just two for the Falcons. The Cyclones limited their opponent to 24-of-62 shooting (38.7 percent), including just two-of-13 from downtown (15.4 percent).
Centenary jumped out to a 40-25 halftime lead thanks to a first half field goal percentage of 47.5 (19-of-40). The Cyclones matched their scoring output in the second half, outscoring their opponent 40-33 in the period to win by 22.
The team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 15, with a home game against Keystone at 1:00 p.m. as part of a double-header with the men's team, which plays the Giants at 3:00 p.m.
