#15 LVC Outlasts Widener, Remains Perfect In CC Play

CHESTER, Pa. – A strong second half effort pushed #15 Lebanon Valley to a 69-62 win over Widener Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen scored 44 of their 69 points in the final 20 minutes to remain undefeated in Commonwealth Conference play and continue to hold sole possession of first place.

Four players led Lebanon Valley (15-1, 5-0 CC) in scoring, all reaching double digit figures. Andrea Hoover notched a team-best 14 points and Renee Fritz contributed 13 for her sixth double digit game this season. Suzie Noyes and Lauren Ruhl posted 12 points each in the win.

Grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds, including nine defensive boards, was Fritz for her second double-double of the season. Hoover notched five assists, Caitlin Murphy recorded the team's only block, and Ruhl tallied four steals to lead LVC.

Fritz and Hoover paced the Dutchmen in the first half with eight points each, while Liz Borgia added four points. LVC grabbed 12 rebounds, including a team-high five from Fritz.

Widener (12-4, 3-2 CC) ran out to an early lead after back-to-back 3-pointers from Jennifer Egee made it 8-2. Limiting Lebanon Valley to just one basket over the next five minutes, the Pride reached an eight point advantage. Borgia broke through at 12:17 with a layup and two more baskets from Fritz pulled LVC to within two.

Tying the score after a layup from Borgia at 8:34, Lebanon Valley gained the lead for the first time at 6:10 with a three point play from Hoover. The score was even three more times in the next three minutes and the Dutchmen led by one point with 2:34 to play. Widener dominated for the remainder of the half, scoring eight of the last 10 points to hold a 30-25 lead at the break.

Noyes started the second half with a 3-pointer and a layup to tie the game for the sixth time. Widener responded with a 3-pointer from Lil Carney and went up by five points at 15:06. The teams continued to battle and the contest's seventh tie came with 12:43 remaining.

The Dutchmen controlled the game for the remainder, hitting a game-high 12 point lead at 7:28 after a 3-pointer from Ruhl. Widener made a late run and came within three points twice in the final two minutes, but LVC held tight. Making key free throws down the stretch, Lebanon Valley claimed the 69-62 win.

Noyes led the strong second half effort, scoring all 12 of her points in the final frame, while Ruhl recorded 10 of her 12 points.

LVC shot 52.2% from the floor, 50% behind the arc, and 69.2% at the free throw line. Widener shot 39% from the floor, 26.9% behind the arc, and 81.8% at the free throw line.

The Dutchmen travel to second place Messiah (10-5, 4-1 CC) on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game.
