Wittenberg Women Drop 65-53 Contest To Ohio Wesleyan

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The ball changed hands many times Wednesday night as the Wittenberg women's basketball team dropped a 65-53 decision to visiting Ohio Wesleyan and fell to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The two teams were nearly even in the turnover column of the final box score, Wittenberg giving up 24 and Ohio Wesleyan 20, but the Battling Bishops converted their extra possessions into 25 points against 14 for the Tigers.

The Bishops opened the game with 45-percent shooting, but the figure fell to 37-percent by the end of the contest after the Tigers' defense kicked in. Ohio Wesleyan shot just 8-of-29 from the floor in the second period, including 2-of-9 from three-point range.

Wittenberg outrebounded the visitors 44-42 in the game, led by 10 from senior wing Katherine Hueter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Darby), who reached double digits in the category for the sixth time this season.

Junior post Sarah Watson (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) paced the team with 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting and a solid 5-of-5 from the free throw line.

Freshman guard Jaclyn Willoughby (Houston, Ohio/Houston) turned in one of the best games of her young career with 12 points, including 6-of-9 at the line, to go with two rebounds and four assists.

Junior wing Lauren Cassel (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) and sophomore post Kim Replogle (Houston, Ohio/Houston) each contributed six points on the night.

The Tigers next head to Kenyon on Saturday, Jan. 15, for a 2 p.m. matchup at Tomsich Arena in the Kenyon Athletic Complex.
