Pointers Cruise Past Pioneers 75-40

STEVENS POINT- The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team opened the game up on a 12-0 run and never looked back as they easily defeated UW-Platteville 75-40 on Wednesday night at the Berg Gymnasium.

After Britta Petersen scored the game's first four points, Christin Coles had the next eight in the run as she drained two three pointers to help give the Pointers an early lead.

Coles scored all 10 of her points in the first 20 minutes as she was one of three Pointers to score in double figures.

Sam Barber led the team with 12 points and seven rebounds and Petersen finished with 10 points to help aid the Pointers to victory.

Ashley Averkamp had a solid all around game for the Pointers as she finished with six points, six rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.  Petersen also had two blocks and four assists.

All 14 players scored for the Pointers as they held a double digit lead for 36 out of 40 minutes in the game.

The Pointers defense was also solid on the night as they forced 30 Pioneer turnovers and held UW-Platteville to 31 percent (13-41) shooting.

The Pointers also had a strong edge in the paint as the outscored the Pioneers 50-18 in the paint.  The Pointer bench also outscored the Pioneers reserves 42-15.

The win kept the Pointers unbeaten in conference play as they improved to 6-0 in the WIAC.  It was also their sixth consecutive victory.  The Pointers are now 13-2 overall.

The Pointers will start a three game road stretch on Saturday when they travel to UW-Superior for a WIAC contest.  Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
