Bulldogs Bounce Back From Slow Start To Beat Dolphins 67--57

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team improved to 3-1 in conference play on Saturday, defeating the College of Staten Island, 67-57.  The Bulldogs shot miserably in the first half, converting on only 12 of 41 field goal attempts, however they scored 42 second half points to had the Dolphins their second loss in conference play.

The opening hafl began with some stifling defense from the home team as Brooklyn held Staten Island to just 5 points over the first 8:56, opening up a 12-5 advantage.  BC struggled to get going offensively, however, as they only scored six points over the next seven minutes, allowing the Dolphis to grab their first lead since the opening minute, 19-18. 

The two teams exchanged baskets over the remaining few minutes of the half with CSI's Olivia Tierno scoring on a drive to the hoop to give the Dolphins a 27-25 lead going into the half.

Staten Island continued their strong play early in the second half as a Rachel Rosado made a jumper to give them their biggest lead of the game at 39-32. 

The Bulldogs came right back, as senior Ashley Allen  nailed a deep three to cut the deficit back to four.  That shot sparked a 17-5 run by BC as a three-pointer by Ariel Smith gave Brooklyn a 49-44 lead with 9:41 to go. 

Brooklyn would not relinquish this lead as they pushed the margin to as high as 13, 66-53, on their way to their seventh vicotory of the season.

Smith led Brooklyn with 18 points, 8 assists and 5 steals, while Justin O'Callahan chipped in with 12 points and 8 rebounds.  Elisha Raiford had a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with 9 points.

Allen had a big game for Brooklyn as well, hitting on 3 of 7 from long distance, to finish with 9 points and 3 assists.

Tierno led CSI with 18 points, while Allie Shanahan finished with a double-double, 16 pionts and 10 boards. 

Brooklyn will have a six-day layoff before returning to the road to take on CUNYAC foe Hunter next Friday at 5 pm, while Staten Island will be back at it on Wednesday as they host City Tech.
