#13 Mount Union Claims Key Victory over ONU

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) scored 20 points, leading Mount Union's nationally-ranked women's basketball team to a 66-56 victory over Ohio Northern in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) added 11 points for the Purple Raiders, who were in the lead or tied for all but 44 seconds.

Taylor Hartung (Canton/Massillon Perry) contributed seven rebounds and five assists, Lauren Forquer (North Canton/Green) came through with seven rebounds and Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) dished five assists.

With 11:45 left in the contest, Ohio Northern's Jeanne Bockey hit a jumper to give the visitors their only lead at 44-42.

LaMattina answered back with a tying layup and Wiedt nailed a go-ahead 3-pointer, putting the Raiders ahead, 47-44.

Later on, Hartung and Rose nailed back-to-back 3s as Mount Union widened the gap to 60-50 with 2:13 to go.

As a team, the Purple Raiders made a solid effort on the perimeter. They shot 30.4 percent (7 of 23) from behind the arc. More impressively, the hosts held Ohio Northern (11-3, 6-1) to a 9.1 percent (1 of 11) from 3-point land.

Kara Dysert was the Polar Bears' top performer, finishing with 12 points and seven rebounds. Morgan Dumbaugh added 11 points.

Mount Union (11-2, 5-2) will return to action on Wednesday with a 7:30 matchup at Baldwin-Wallace.
