CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After taking a week off for finals, the Edgewood College women's basketball team traveled to take on nonconference foe, Coe College on Saturday. The Kohawks scored the first basket of the game and never looked back behind solid defense, taking the game 82-58.

With the Eagles (5-4) trailing 8-1 just over three minutes in, Shae Beckwith connected on a three-point basket to pull the Eagles within four. The teams then exchanged points before Alison Tobin nailed a pair of free throws to make the score 12-9 with 14:30 to go in the first half.

However, that was as close as the Eagles would get the rest of the way as Coe's offense began to click and their defense dug in. Over the next 3:56, the Kohawks (7-2) went on a 17-0 run to take command of the contest. On the run, Coe made four layups and three three-point baskets, while missing only missing three shots, two of which coming from distance.

Danielle Dixon finally ended the run with a layup with 9:37 left to make the score 29-11 before the lead began to swell again. The Kohawks closed the half on a 12-6 lead to take a 50-23 lead at the break.

In the half, Coe shot a blistering 58.8 percent (20-for-34) from the floor, well holding the Eagles to just 25.9 percent (7-for-27).

It did not get any better in the second half as the Kohawks earned their largest lead of the game, 35 points with 7:40 left before the Eagles went on a run. Melanie Walker sparked the 11-5 spurt with a layup before Brittany Bylsma knocked down a jump shot. Amber Hemp completed a three-point play and Beckwith ended the run with another three-point basket to make the score 72-46 with 5:31 left.

Edgewood College then scored the final 10 points of the contest, started by a jump shot from Chantelle Vogt. She followed that up with a three-point basket before Denay Hering made a layup. Hering then made three free throws in the final minute to make the final score 82-58 in favor of Coe.

The Kowhawk defense never allowed the Eagles to settle in, holding Edgewood College to 31.1 percent (19-for-61) shooting from the floor and 23.1 percent (3-for-13) from three-point land. Coe shot 46.8 percent (29-for-62) from the floor and 44.4 percent (12-for-27) from distance in the win.

Coe's Hannah Breitbach led all scorers with 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting, including 5-for-9 from three-point range. Walker led Edgewood College with 13 points and Hemp was the only other Eagle in double figures with 10 points.

The Eagles will try and end their two game skid on Tuesday night when they return home to face UW-Oshkosh. Edgewood College will provide both live stats and live video for the 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
