SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England College women's basketball team rallied from an 18-point second half deficit to defeat visiting Fitchburg State 61-58 in a non-league contest Tuesday night (Dec. 7) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The Golden Bears raised their record to 6-1 while the Falcons drop to 5-3 after having a three-game win streak ended.

Sophomore center Elena Radzikowski (Medway, MA) came off the bench to score a game high 14 points while pulling down six rebounds for Western New England College.

Senior forward Kelly McCormick (Manchester, CT) had another strong outing with 11 points and nine rebounds. She added three assists and three steals, the last one resulting in her lay-up that gave the Golden Bears a 57-56 lead with 59.1 seconds left in the game.

Despite being bothered by a bad back, sophomore guard Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) also netted 11 points off the bench, including a pair of free throws that gave WNEC a 59-56 margin with 27.2 seconds remaining.

Fitchburg State made it a one-point game when sophomore forward Jill Moses (Dedham, MA) hit a jumper at the 17.8-second mark.

Sophomore guard Shelby Van Huysen (Killingworth, CT), who had nine points, then calmly drained a pair of charity shots to make it 61-58 a second later.

The Falcons had a chance to tie the game, but a three-pointer by senior guard Molly Maloney (Taunton, MA) missed the mark in the final seconds. She finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in a fine effort.

Freshman guard Amy Fahey (Wilmington, MA) tossed in 10 points in a reserve role. Senior center Kristen Love (Londonderry, NH) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Fitchburg State shot 50% from the field to take a 38-25 lead at halftime. The Falcons took a 45-27 advantage when senior guard Kim Duprey (Bernardston, MA) buried a three-pointer with 13:30 left in the contest.
Freshman guard Katie Eckert (Lee, MA) aided the win with eight points in 13 minutes off the bench.

Western New England College, which struggled from the field (32.3%) all night, made key shots when it counted using a 19-2 run late in the game to key its comeback. Fitchburg State made only 26.9% of its field goal attempts in the second half, finishing with a 38.9% mark.
