Wheaton women earn a 65-49 victory against UW-Oshkosh

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's basketball team defeated Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 65-49 on Saturday afternoon in Wheaton's King Arena.  Wheaton is now 4-2 on the season, while the Titans fall to 5-4. The Thunder will return to action on Wednesday at St. Ambrose University.

Wheaton never trailed in today's game, as the Thunder scored the first seven points of the contest. Wheaton held a five-point advantage at 19-14 with 5:30 remaining in the first half when a three-pointer by sophomore Laura Karsten sparked a 14-4 Wheaton scoring run to close out the first half. The hosts held a 33-18 lead at halftime.

The closest the Titans could get in the second half was seven-point deficit at a 40-33 lead with 11:15 remaining in the game. Wheaton's largest lead of the second half was a 17–point advantage at 56-39 with 4:35 left in the game; however, the Titans scored eight unanswered points to trim Wheaton's lead to 56-47 with 3:10 left in the game. With 2:48 remaining in the game, Brooke Olson threw a pass into the paint that allowed Annie Bowen to score a layup to stop the Titans' run; and on the next Thunder possession Lindsey Brenneman made a three-pointer to increase Wheaton's lead to 61-47 with 1:53 remaining in the game and secure the win for the hosts.

Brenneman led Wheaton with 19 points and three assists. Bowen scored 15 points, with eight rebounds. Sophomore Laura Karsten scored nine points, with seven rebounds and five assists. Brooke Olson added eight points, with three assists. Maris Hovee scored six points, with seven rebounds and Breanna Bohlen added six points.

Michelle Boeder led the Titans with 19 points. Megan Wenig and Shelby Churchill each scored 10 points, as Churchill grabbed a team-best five rebounds.

Wheaton shot 43.1% (22-51) from the field, with 43.8% (7-16) from three-point range and 77.8% (14-18) at the free throw line. UW-Oshkosh recorded a 39.6% (19-48) field goal percentage, with 36.4% (4-110 from behind the three-point arc and 77.8% (7-9) at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the Titans 34-29, with a 9-6 edge on the offensive glass.
