Lady Mavs Depth Leads Them to Victory

More news about: Medaille

(Greensburg, PA) – The 25th ranked Lady Mavs faced their first conference road hurdle this afternoon as they took on Pitt-Greensburg at Chambers Hall Gym.  It wasn't a pretty affair but Medaille cruised to a (59-46) victory, using a (51-39) edge on the boards to take care of the Bobcats.

Senior Mame Yaa Ankoma-Mensa (Brampton, Ont./D'Youville) assaulted the glass all day as she gathered a game high (14) boards, six came on the offensive end which contributed to the Lady Mavs (14) second chance points.

Freshman Bianca Smiley (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) continued to learn the ins and outs of the college game as she matched a game high with (15) points, while grabbing (8) caroms and blocking a pair of Bobcat attempts in the fourth game of her young career.  Smiley sparked the Medaille reserves who outscored their counterparts (34-18).

The Lady Mavs used their typical aggressive defensive style to force the Bobcats into (22) turnovers and limited them to (26.8%) shooting from the floor and a dismal (12.1%) from behind the arc.

The win pushes the Lady Mavs to (4-1) overall and they remain unbeaten in AMCC play at (2-0).  Next up for the Lady Mavs is a rematch of last years AMCC Title game when Medaille will face Pitt-Bradford on the road on Wednesday (12/8) at  6:00pm
