Dolphins Stumble At Skyline Preseason Favorite Mount Saint Mary

Newburgh, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team suffered its third straight loss on Tuesday night after a 64-31 defeat at Mount Saint Mary. Freshman Sarah Kluth (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and junior Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) each scored eight points for the Dolphins to lead the team.

 Mount Saint Mary would lead wire-to-wire on Tuesday night and held a lead as large as 34 points midway through the second half. The Knights shot just 36.5-percent from the floor in the tilt, but placed three players in double-figures. Bethany Deer came off the bench for Mount Saint Mary to go 5-for-8 from the floor overall and post a game-high 13 points.

 The Knights opened the game on a 15-1 run, including the first seven points of the contest. After that initial run the Dolphins would not be able to get the game under double-figures. Deer would finish the opening 20 minutes with 10 of her game-high 13 points.

 Overall in the game, Mount Saint Vincent would shoot just 27.5-percent from the field and make just two of its 12 three-pointers. The Dolphins also struggled from the free-throw line, converting just one of their five chances.

 Kluth finished the game 4-for-6 from the field and also added five rebounds and handed out a career-high six assists. She also collected three steals for the Dolphins. McNish went 4-for-8 from the floor on Tuesday and added a team-high seven rebounds for the Dolphins McNish leads the Dolphins on the season in that category, averaging an even 10.0 boards per night.

 The Knights finished the night with a commanding 50-35 edge on the back boards, including 19-8 on the offensive end. Mount Saint Mary converted 12 second chance points on the night and forced 25 Dolphin turnovers and converted those into 24 points.

 The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-3 overall on the season and to 0-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Thursday night in their home opener against Old Westbury. Tip-off with the Panthers at the Peter Jay Sharp Center is slated for 7:00 p.m.
